Listening Deeply to the Body

This is one of my favourite meditations. Though it is intended to awaken us to how our bodies are at any moment in time, it’s often quite relaxing. Before you start, make sure that you are warmly and comfortably dressed and that you are in a space where you will not be disturbed or interrupted for about 40 minutes. Very often when people haven’t stopped for a long time once they lay down to do this meditation they find themselves falling asleep. If this happens for you, enjoy it! It simply means that your body is telling you that it is sleepy. If you adopt this as a more regular practice you will find that you fall asleep less often and you can really appreciate how your body is and what it is holding for you at any given time. The attitudes to adopt in the Body Scan practice are acceptance, compassion and gratitude.
