One Small Candle

It’s better to light a candle than to curse the darkness
— attributed to William L Watkinson

When you introduce light into a dark area, the darkness simply disappears.  If you enter a dark place with a lamp, the light falls on everyone who is near you – everyone is automatically aware of the presence of the light, and darkness is dissolved.

The sun appears to be the source of light, but it is really a reflection of the true light, which is God or spirit.  Remember that this true light is always shining just as the sun shines perpetually even when you don’t see it.  The nullifier of the darkness is always shining and available to you whenever you choose.

Do not pretend or fake happiness when darkness is present.  Instead, cultivate an internal sense of awe about yourself and your place in the world.  Think of the magnificence of every breath you take.  Be in awe of the immensity of our universe.  Know that behind all dark clouds the sun shines, and behind all appearance of darkness there is an eternal light that you can access which will defuse darkness.

Our Deepest Fear

by Marianne Williamson

Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate.
Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure.
It is our light, not our darkness
That most frightens us.

We ask ourselves
Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous?
Actually, who are you not to be?
You are a child of God.

Your playing small
Does not serve the world.
There's nothing enlightened about shrinking
So that other people won't feel insecure around you.

We are all meant to shine,
As children do.
We were born to make manifest
The glory of God that is within us.

It's not just in some of us;
It's in everyone.
